Sky Walker case update

Sky Walker is still being held at the Northwest Ohio Developmental Center in Toledo, Ohio, after being declared incompetent to stand trial last March. There are no hearings or court appearances pending.

A deputy clerk for the Portage County Clerk of Courts said there are no events scheduled for Walker now because he remains in the facility as a result of his autism.

“With this type of case, you are not going to have specific dates because the competency is in question,” the deputy clerk, who wished to remain anonymous, said. “The trial essentially comes to a stop.”

Walker was charged with two counts of murder after allegedly attacking his mother, professor Gertrude “Trudy” Steuernagel. Steuernagel was found in her home January 29 and transported to Akron City Hospital where she died of her injuries on February 6.

While there are no set dates to continue Walker’s trial, his attorney Deron Boring said, “I will publicly say that Sky is doing very well.”
