The Bar’N and The Green Room, two bars sharing the same building on South Depeyster Street, closed this week after the city served its owners an eviction notice.

The tenants were told Thursday they had three days to get out of the building.

“They became delinquent in their payments,” Economic Development Director Dan Smith said.

The building is owned by the city of Kent and was leased on a month-to-month basis to Lincoln Baringer, former owner of the Robin Hood, and TG Carpenter LLC. They were behind on their $3,200 a month payments.

Baringer could not be reached for comment.

The Kent City Council will explore options for the location, Smith said. The building could be renovated for other uses, but he said demolition is a viable option.

The Bar’N and Green Room may be the last of a long line of bars to come and go from that building. Before the Bar’N, there was Barcode. And before Barcode, there was Screwy Louie’s.

Ray’s Place manager Matt Wilcox said it was obvious the Bar’N and the Green Room weren’t ” expecting to be there for the long haul” because they were doing a month-to-month lease.

There’s no concern for a lack of watering holes, though.

Jeff Franklin, a bouncer at the Bar’N, said the liquor license has already been sold to a new bar being built on state Route 59.
