St. Petersburg Times’ Politifact.com has compiled a list of about 500 promises made by Barack Obama during his historic presidential
campaign. The site will track Obama’s progress on this massive “to-do” list. Here are some of the 44th president’s promises.n Include environmental and labor standards in trade agreements
&bull Increase the capital gains and dividends taxes for higher-income taxpayers
&bull Extend the Bush tax cuts for lower incomes and repeal the Bush tax cuts for higher incomes
&bull Require children to have health insurance coverage
&bull Begin removing combat brigades from Iraq
&bull End warrantless wiretaps
&bull Close the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center
&bull Make White House communications public
&bull Allow five days of public comment before signing bills
&bull Increase minority access to capital
&bull Provide option for a pre-filled-out tax form
&bull Implement “Women Owned Business” contracting program
&bull Invest in electronic health information systems
&bull Allow imported prescription drugs and prevent drug companies from blocking generic drugs
