Women’s golf ninth at Tar Heel Invitational

The Kent State women’s golf team finished ninth out of 18 teams at the

Tar Heel Invitational this weekend at Chapel Hill, NC.

Senior Kirby Dreher, who took first-place honors at the Mary Fossum

Invitational on Sept. 20-21, was the top finisher for the women’s

team with a tie for tenth place shooting a 6-over-par 222 (75-75-72).

Freshman Mercedes Germino finished one stroke behind Dreher in a tie

for 13th. Sophomore Mackenzie Jackson tied for 53rd with 17-over-par

233. Behind Jackson, freshman Shamira Marshall shot 19-over-par 235,

finishing in 59th for the tournament. Senior Maddie Swaney finished

88th scoring 37-over-par 253.

Wake Forest, led by Jean Chua and Natalie Sheary, who shot par for the

weekend and tied for individual firt-place honors, won the tournament.

The Kent State women’s team resumes play Oct. 10 at the Mercedes Benz

Women’s Collegiate in Knoxville, Tenn.
