When the Homecoming Court took the field during halftime of the Kent State and Ohio University football game, the most dramatic part of the day occurred as Tim Muir and Kylan Ward were announced the 2008 Homecoming King and Queen.

The announcement was followed by a rush of applause in the stadium and both Ward and Muir were crowned by President Lestor Lefton and 2007 Homecoming Queen Lyndsay Petruny. A bouquet of yellow roses was given to the queen, who was near tears but all smiles.

“I can’t even describe it, it’s unreal,” Ward said. “I would never have thought this would happen.”

After the presentation as the two approached friends and family, Ward and Muir heard everything from high pitched squeals of congratulations to “Work that!” in regards to their royal wear.

But Muir and Ward didn’t let the attention go to their heads.

“It was really cool to hang out with the court,” Muir said. “No matter who won, I know this sounds cheesy, but we all got to spend time with each other and it was an amazing experience.”

Muir, senior electronic media production major, was sponsored by the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He is a member of Undergraduate Student Government and TV-2. Ward, senior psychology major, was sponsored by Recreational Services.

Lefton said because he knows many of the members of the Homecoming Court, he felt they were all qualified for the crown.

“The entire Homecoming Court are great gals and guys,” he said. “Only two people can win, but the two winners are terrific people, and they’ll represent the student body well.”

Muir and Ward said that they are excited to serve in their newly acquired positions, but the opportunity to spend time with the other court members was just as memorable.

“Everyone on court was amazing, and the experience was wonderful,” Ward said. “I’m so glad that I had this opportunity.”
