Liquid Crystal Day will honor ‘grandfather of Liquid Crystals’

Kent State will host Liquid Crystal Day from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at the Liquid Crystal Material Sciences Building.

Liquid Crystal Day is dedicated to Alfred Saupe, the grandfather of liquid crystals, who passed away in August.

The event will bring together enthusiasts, students, researchers, scientists and industry professionals from local companies such as AlphaMicron, Inc. and Kent Displays, Inc. to highlight achievements of liquid crystal research at Kent State.

Students don’t have to be familiar with liquid crystals in order to attend. The event is free and open to anyone.

Jim Maxwell, public relations coordinator for the Liquid Crystal Institute, considers the event their “big open house day of the year” and hopes a lot of undergraduates will come.
