Volleyball beats Quinnipiac

The Kent State volleyball team swept Quinnipiac in three games – 25-23, 25-17, 25-22 – today in its first match of the University of Maine tournament in Orono, Maine.

Despite the victory, Kent State coach Glen Conley called it “just an ugly volleyball match.”

“We made way too many mistakes and really gave Quinnipiac a chance to win some games,” he said. “It was a good effort, but I think it was a lot of wasted effort.”

Conley said the team fell behind early in the first and third games. He commended the Flashes’ hard work in fighting back, but he said tomorrow the women will need to play smarter volleyball.

“(It’s) taking advantage of the things they’re giving us,” he said. “We ran into (Quinnipiac’s) strength a lot today. It was really unnecessary to do so because there were things we could take advantage of that we just messed up.”

No statistics were available at press time.

Tomorrow the Flashes (3-1, 0-0 MAC) will play Providence College at 10 a.m. and Maine at 6 p.m.
