New York-based artist Ivelisse Jiménez will give a lecture about her work at 6 p.m. tonight in Room 306 in the Art Building. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Jiménez, who has studied in New York City and Puerto Rico, is a painter and also works in mixed media. Her work has been featured everywhere from the Czech Republic to Peru, according to her Web site.

Martin Ball, professor of painting and drawing, organized the lecture.

“It will be interesting for anyone who’s interested in art, particularly painting and drawing,” Ball said.

Jiménez and artist Lorri Ott will be featured in the exhibit “Description Without a Place,” opening Friday at Exit Gallery Space in Tremont. Since she would be in town, Ball said he thought it would be a good idea to bring Jiménez to campus to discuss her paintings.

Jiménez will also be doing critiques with graduate and upper division painting students in the School of Art today and tomorrow.
