Huckabee drops out; McCain projected to clinch nomination

Sen. John McCain will clinch the Republican nomination after tonight’s primary wins in Ohio, Vermont, Rhode Island and Texas, The Associated Press projects.

Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee announced he is withdrawing from the race after McCain clinched the 1,191 delegates needed for the Republican nomination, according to AP.

The Democratic race between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in Ohio is still too close to call.

Voting in two Ohio counties continued after polls were scheduled to close at 7:30 p.m. A federal judge ordered the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to keep 21 Cleveland precincts open until 9 p.m. Jeff Hastings, the judge, told the AP his understanding was that there were weather-related problems in the precincts.

A judge also granted Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner’s request to keep polls open in Sandusky County until 9 p.m. because many precincts had run out of paper ballots.
