Kent State student charged after on-campus assault

Kent State police arrested Sarae Chaney for attacking a fellow resident of the Allerton Apartments with a hammer.

Lt. Christopher Jenkins of the Kent State police said Chaney, early childhood development major, was arrested on felonious assault. Chaney, 28, was taken to the Portage County Justice Center.

Jenkins said she attacked the other resident at about 4 a.m. yesterday. While he would not release the other resident’s name, he did confirm 1334 J Allerton as the location of the attack. According to Kent State’s phone directory, this is the residence of Nastacia Randleman.

Reporters’ attempts to contact Randleman were unsuccessful. Brian Hellwig, security manager and director of Allerton Apartments, said he and Randleman had no comment.

Jenkins said the investigation is still ongoing.
