Construction crews began clearing trees and moving earth to make way for Hillel’s new Jewish Student Center on Wednesday.

It has been a long process to get to this point and Jennifer Chestnut, director of Hillel at Kent, is excited about the progress.

“It feels unbelievable to finally be underway,” Chestnut said.

Hillel’s current facility is 1,500 square feet, and the new center comes as a welcomed upgrade. The new state-of-the-art facility will boast 11,000 square feet of space, American Disability Act compliance, multi-purpose workspace and a café. Parts of the center will be open to all students including meeting rooms that can be rented out.

Cavanaugh Building is the general contractor for Hillel and expects to complete the facility by December.
