Sixteen giggling students paraded around a table to the music of a nearby laptop. When the music stopped they stopped, but they didn’t sit down like the usual game of musical chairs.
Instead, the Alpha Phi Omegas were equipped with markers ready to write a message to whomever’s poster they stopped in front of.
The co-ed service fraternity created its own activity combining a graffiti party and musical chairs as an event for its rush week last night in the Student Center.
The event was designed for new pledges to get to know the members.
“No one had an old, white T-shirt,” rush chair Leah Betton said. “So we decided to use paper instead.”
Senior international relations major Melissa Chewning said she had fun at the event.
“There were four (new members) there I didn’t know before,” she said.
The organization does community service with Habitat for Humanity, Happy Trails and Kent Social Service. It had an event every day this week, including game night, craft night and a scavenger hunt to try to attract new members.
“We are low on members,” service chair Jen Gatten said.
They only have about 25 active members.
As rush week comes to an end tomorrow, there is an ice cream social planned for the bid night.
“If everyone comes, we will have nine new members,” Betton said.
