Students and the community are welcome to “Enter the Dance.”

Ohio’s own Verlezza Dance company will perform at 7 p.m. today in the E. Turner Stump Theatre located in the Music and Speech Center. The company will showcase dancers with various types of disabilities and some with perceived full capabilities.

The performance is part of disAbility Awareness Week, which aims to recognize what people can do instead of highlighting what they can’t.

This is the first year Kent State has held a disAbility Awareness Week. Danielle Flickinger, a graduate assistant in the office of Student Accessibility Services, said the program has seen success so far, and the office hopes to have a large crowd for the performance tonight.

“We wanted to bring this to the forefront because people with disabilities have all different types of abilities and participate in all different walks of life,” she said.

The performance is free and open to the public.
