The School of Journalism and Mass Communication is hosting its own Homecoming festivities in Franklin Hall on Saturday.

The event is open to JMC alumni and Friends of JMC.

“This is the alumni’s first look at the new building and our first chance to show it off,” said Jeff Fruit, director of JMC.

A social hour will jump-start the activities at 10:30 a.m. in the Franklin Hall main lobby. Brunch begins at 11:15 a.m. followed by an awards ceremony at noon. Another social hour and building tours at 12:30 p.m. will conclude the event.

During the awards presentation, Richard Ramhoff will receive the Taylor Award for remarkable career success. The JMC Director’s Service Award will be presented to Anne Reid, who will retire after this year. Rachel Dissell and Jon Wile are being honored with the Friends of JMC Award.

Friends of JMC are volunteers who have worked to help the school by donating their time and energy.

Building tours will be led by Public Relations Student Society of America members and student media leaders will be showcasing their studios.

Lori Cantor, senior business manager in the office of student media, said JMC Homecoming was hosted in the Student Center Schwebel Garden Room in past years because there wasn’t enough space in their previous Taylor Hall home. She said about 80 people are expected to attend the event this Saturday.

Cost of the brunch is $20 per person. For reservations, contact Sharon Marquis at [email protected] or call (330) 672-8281.
