There was an unplanned power outage at 7:45 p.m. Monday at Nixson Hall and the Music and Speech Center. It took maintenance staff about two hours to safely restore power.

Michael McDonald, director of Campus Environment and Operations, said he believes an electrical switch in the Music and Speech Center is to blame.

“It’s part of the older electrical infrastructure, which is being replaced,” he said.

At 5:30 this morning, there was a scheduled power outage in the E wing – the music department – of the Music and Speech Center.

Today’s outage, which was about a half hour long, gave staff the opportunity to make repairs to the switch.

McDonald said these repairs should prevent future power outages.
