Freshman Miller named MAC player of week

In just her second week as a member of Kent State field hockey team, freshman forward Rachel Miller was named MAC Player of the Week yesterday.

“It feels great,” Miller said. “It is a honor, I cannot believe it.”

Miller had a goal and two assists over the weekend in the team’s victories against Lock Haven and Penn. Miller had another goal yesterday in the victory against Ohio State.

“You never know what to expect,” Miller said. “I didn’t know what to expect when I came, but it has been great to start with these girls.”

Her coach, Kathleen Schanne, said Miller does not play like a freshman and expected her to play like this.

“Her speed is second to none in the MAC. She blows by people like they are standing still.”

Miller, a native of Australia, has three goals and two assists.
