LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Education is more than job preparation

Dear Editor,

Yikes! In July 11’s Stater, I read that “Lefton said . it is important for students not to take courses in areas they will not get jobs.”

Please, President Lefton, tell us that the reporter has inadvertently misrepresented your views. I hope that you think there is value in taking courses because they are interesting, because you are curious, because they broaden your horizons, because . just because.

I, for one, think that a college education (or education in general, formal or otherwise) is far more than preparation for a particular job.
