WKSU meets pledge goal

WKSU 89.7 FM was able to end its summer fund drive early when the station met its goal of 1,400 pledges. Pledges, however, are still welcomed and those who donate money this week will still receive thank you gifts, including Blossom vouchers, movie passes, Akron Aeros tickets or Mustard Seed Market gift cards.

Bob Burford, public relations director at WKSU, said the summer fund drive, unlike the spring and fall drives, is shorter, generally lasting for six days rather than nine and a half days. The drive began June 15 and ended June 22.

Burford said the pledges from the drive support general operating at WKSU, mainly paying for the programming. Pledges range from $500 annually to any dollar amount. As the pledge level increases, more thank-you gifts are given.

“If people listen to this programming, they realize that now more than ever it is different than what is on the commercial side of things,” Burford said. “Commercial radio is more homogenous, more cookie-cutter.”
