Flashes’ Young drafted by Saints

The ‘Big Easy’ is about to get a taste of the Midwest.

In the NFL draft this weekend, the New Orleans Saints selected three players from Ohio, including Kent State cornerback Usama Young.

As the second pick in the third round – 66th overall – Young was the Saints’ first addition from the heartland.

With the 88th pick, New Orleans also selected Andy Alleman from Akron.

Young and Alleman join Josh Cribbs and Charlie Frye as a Kent-Akron tandem to join forces in the pros.

Young was the only Kent State player drafted over the weekend.

Before Young, the last Kent State selection came in 2000 draft when tight end Jason Gavadza was chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round. Gavadza was 204th pick overall.

The Saints also selected, as the eighth pick in the fourth round, Ohio State tailback Antonio Pittman.
