Academic affairs senator bridges gap between students, advisers

The senator for academic affairs works with academic advisers to help bridge gaps between advisers and students. Preston Mitchum, current senator for academic affairs, said the senator and advisers work together to become more effective at representing students’ needs.

The senator also deals with academic problems that are brought to the Undergraduate Student Senate. Mitchum said he sent surveys to students to get feedback with the hope of making the Kent Academic Progress System, also known as the KAPS report, easier to use.

Mitchum said having a senator for academic affairs is important because without it, students would not have a voice in academic polices.
