College Towers newly renovated, but still not perfect

Only two minutes from campus and one of the more affordable apartments, students say convenience is the best part about living at College Towers.

“The fact that it’s right on campus is the reason I moved in,” said Holly Murray, junior hospitality management major.

However, some residents have complaints about how the building is maintained.

Physics graduate student Swarnendu Tripathi said he has had problems with water leakage. Recently, he said, he had water coming up through the toilet. He said he called maintenance but at first they couldn’t fix the problem.

“I lost my whole day,” Tripathi said.

Resident David Bohm, a University of Akron alumnus, said people don’t realize when they sign the lease that they have no control over the free heat.

“We have a thermostat,” he said. “It makes a nice wall decoration.”

Ashlee Hopkins, senior international relations major, said she likes the new additions downstairs, especially renovations on the pool and a new weight room.

College Towers is located on Rhodes Road and offers leasing periods of 12 months with the option of short-term leases. Gas and heating utilities are free, and residents are allowed one free parking space per bedroom.

Amenities include an indoor pool and fitness center, movie theater, 24-hour computer lab and study lounge and laundry rooms. The only pets allowed are cats, for an additional fee.

Rent is as follows:

• Studio apartments: $290 per month.

• One-bedroom apartments: $290 per month.

• Two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments: $655 per month.

• Two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments: $690 per month.

Residents have the option of renting upgraded apartments with remodeled kitchens and bathrooms, each with new cabinets and ceramic tile floors. The remodeled units also include new appliances and ceiling fans.
