The showdown is officially on.

The Kent State men’s basketball team will face Akron in the Mid-American Conference East Division title game 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the M.A.C. Center.

The two teams, both 12-3 in the conference are tied atop the MAC East.

Kent State earned its 20th win of the season, beating Bowling Green 77-64 last night. The Zips won at Buffalo, defeating the Bulls 87-64.

In the first match-up against Akron this season, the Flashes lost their composure in the second half, ending up on the losing end of a 78-68 final at Akron.

Sunday will be the final home game for senior guards Omni Smith and Armon Gates.

“When you play your last home game, there’s a lot of emotion. So we have to do our best to keep all of that in check and understanding the task at hand,” head coach Jim Christian said. “And the task at hand is being prepared to play a really good basketball team.”
