The Snow Ballers drop the Hoopsterz, heading to the postseason

Despite the late night game Monday, the Snow Ballers ended the regualr season on a positive note, defeating the Hoopsterz.

The Snow Baller faithful, the Kent State women’s basketball team, cheered their team on to a 12-point victory under first time coach Carly Weaver.

Both teams got off to a slow start in the first half. With a put back off an errant shot, Annie Wiater was first to score for the Snow Ballers. On the next trip down, Amanda Valentine kept the Snow Ballers on track with a foul-line jumper.

Wiater was also able to score with some driving layups in the first half of play.

The Snow Ballers controlled the pace of the game with stifling defense from guards Terri M., Brittney Schuster and Michelle Maitert.

Val DeRosa, Maitert and Terri M. proved to be too much for the Hoopsterz’s zone defense, nailing the 3-ball throughout the game.

Jillian Titko, Valentine and Edith Ababio were solid underneath and

provided key rebounds for the team of nursing majors and basketball managers.

Ababio was a strong stand-in for Julia Hodkinson, who was unable to compete due to an early morning Spanish exam the next day.

The Hoopsterz managed to cut the 20-point lead down to seven with 2:44 remaining in the game; however, DeRosa answered back with a 3.

Swarming defense by Schuster and Terri M. created points off break-away layups, which would seal the win for the Snow Ballers.

The Snow Ballers enter tournament play with a record of 3-2.
