Six movies to air after squabble between USS, IFS

After weeks of negotiating, the Undergraduate Student Senate granted the International Film Society funds to screen movies again. Clerks 2 – the first of six movies to be shown this semester – will be presented tomorrow in the Kiva at 8 p.m.

IFS President Sean Johnson began planning this semester’s agenda the week before Fall semester finals. He attended the first USS meeting with a list of movies the group wanted to show, but was told he could not receive funding until he secured locations for the screenings. From there, Johnson and USS went back and forth with their demands, with IFS hanging in the balance.

Finally on Jan. 26, IFS received enough funds for six movies: Clerks 2, Motorcycle Diaries, Howl’s Moving Castle, The Squid and the Whale, Everything is Illuminated and Gangster No. 1. Some of the movies that didn’t make the cut were Clerks and Tsotsi.

“It’s kind of upsetting, (but) we knew we had to play ball,” Johnson said. “Some movies is better than no movies.”
