Frozen pipes force courthouse to close

Local schools weren’t the only places affected by the weather today.

The civil division of the sheriff’s department had to cancel the Sheriff’s Sale because frozen pipes forced the Portage County Courthouse to close.

Auctioneer Roxann Boyle said Portage County Prosecutor Denise Smith told her to cancel the auction instead of holding it outside. The auction has not been rescheduled yet and probably won’t be until later this week.

The courthouse is supposed to reopen tomorrow morning, but the county commissioners’ office suggested people call ahead.
