Church class explores various religions

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron is holding a free and open to the public “Exploring World Religions” class.

The class is hosted by church member Rick Davis and is taught at the church.

Davis said the class originally started with the idea of going to visit other religions’ places of worship, such as Hindu temples and Muslim mosques.

The class is now geared toward learning about religion in general by way of guest speakers of specific religions and by using The Complete Idiot’s Guide to World Religions, Davis said.

“There is wisdom to be gained from other religions,” he said.

The class already had its first session on Judaism, which was lead by Rabbi David Lipper from Temple Israel in Akron, Davis said.

The class will be held four more times on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Those who are interested can contact the church at (330) 836-2206 or visit its Web site at www.uuakron.org.
