FlashLine revamp gives students more options

While Kent State students were on break, FlashLine underwent changes that include easier access and a new look.

Easy-to-find log-in fields are now on the Kent State home page and all regional campus home pages. Jason Wearley, system analyst programming lead, said Vista, Web for Students and e-mailing capabilities have all become accessible from FlashLine, abandoning separate sign-ons on separate Web sites.

The new layout provides more tabs than previously offered. The “My HR” tab adds employment options, and the “My Career Path” section helps students make career choices with an animated navigator as a guide.

The overall design and font changes are done, Wearley said, but the project won’t be completed until Fall 2007 at the earliest.

“There are many committees involved with the process of adding new features,” he said. “It’s not going to change rapidly.”

Megan Hoff, junior special education major, said she likes the new layout.

“I don’t really feel it’s more convenient. It just looks prettier,” she said.

Wearley said the changes were made to provide better support to students and ensure fewer system crashes.

“In three years, the system hasn’t changed,” Wearley said. “We’re trying to keep the portal up to date.”
