Parents of slain student sue officials over handling of 2005 Portage County murder

The parents of a Kent State student who was killed in January 2005 are suing Portage County authorities for $150 million.

The parents of Sarah Positano are suing for the death of their 22-year-old daughter, who was killed by James E. Trimble.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, they are suing because they feel Brimfield Township police’s actions agitated Trimble after making a negotiation to let Positano free. Shortly after, Trimble shot and killed her.

Listed as defendants in Susan and A. James Positano’s suit are the Brimfield Township trustees; David A. Blough, Brimfield Township Police Chief; Trimble; Portage County Job and Family Services; the Portage County commissioners; Trimble’s mother, Elizabeth Trimble and the U.S. Probation Office.
