April Templeman, co-founder of the Queer Liberation Front, announced at last night’s meeting the group will meet with President Lester Lefton on Dec. 6 to discuss various issues, including domestic partner benefits and campus safety.

Danielle Flink, another one of the group’s co-founders, said she would like some real answers from Lefton.

“I feel like the administration talks around a lot of the issues instead of about the issues,” she said, adding that Lefton mainly focuses on retention and diversity but strays from LGBT-related matters.

QLF scheduled the meeting after last Wednesday’s board of trustees meeting, which a few of the group’s members attended.

Templeman said the group is putting together a survey “to gauge how safe students are on campus.”

Josh Sebrasky, another QLF co-founder, said the group will canvass campus and approach resident life to administer the survey.

Templeman said if the group has numbers, maybe the administration will do something about the safety issues.

Flink also said QLF is also holding a transgender awareness vigil at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20 in Risman Plaza.

“It’s one day a year people gather to remember those assaulted, raped or killed because of their gender identity,” she said.

During the vigil, Flink said the group will read off names of those who have been killed because of their gender identity.
