Kent State celebrates Game Day

Reporters cover festivities on Lincoln Street during the Ohio State, Michigan game

It would be a typical Saturday in Kent – except that college football reigns supreme in the minds of Ohio State and Michigan fans.

Photographer Abby Fisher and reporter Erica Weisburn ventured onto Lincoln Street Saturday to catch up with residents preparing for the game.

What they discovered was a microcosm of Ohio – fans anxiously awaiting the game of the century.

They spent the morning observing and speaking with construction workers, Lincoln Street business employees and Starbucks patrons getting their morning caffeine fix to find out what fans planned for the battle between the top two teams in the nation.

Lincoln Street transformed from mellow to energetic as the countdown to kick-off began.

At half-time, a group of students gathered to toss a football across the street, feeling the rush of Ohio State leading Michigan.

The Daily Kent Stater recorded the day’s events leading up to a 42-39 scarlet and gray victory and captured the atmosphere in a photo story.
