Countdown to Election Day has begun

Election Day, Nov. 7, is just five weeks from tomorrow. Lucky for you, there’s still time to register to vote and pay attention to candidates and issues that will affect you directly.

But time is running against you, so now is the time to act. Next Tuesday, Oct. 10, is the last day to register to vote. Registration forms are available at Kent State’s library – but don’t wait until the last minute. You don’t want to miss out by thinking you still have a day.

Also, if you’ve moved since the last election, you’ll want to update your address so that you aren’t denied the right to vote at the polling place. Call the Portage County Board of Elections at (330) 297-3511 to take care of it.

Then there’s the small matter of figuring out which way to vote. We plan to help – each Monday from now until Election Day the Forum Page editorial board will give you the positions of leading candidates in major state and local races as well as both sides of the big issues.

In races we can reach consensus about a candidate or issue, we’ll also offer our endorsement. You may or may not agree with us. Either way, we hope to provide you with the facts you need to cast an educated vote on Election Day.

We won’t try to cover every race or candidate or issue, but our intention is to offer you information that will get you started in making these important decisions.

The rest is in your hands.

The above editorial is the consensus opinion of the Daily Kent Stater editorial board.
