Residents to compete in decor
September 6, 2006
Kent Interhall Council is sponsoring its annual Homestlying Competition. Three winners will be chosen for the best-decorated rooms and receive $75 gift cards to K-mart.
According to the KIC Web site, members of the KIC executive board will be judging rooms Sept. 12 through 14. Each day has a specific time for judging. Residents can choose what time works best for them on the application.
Director of Community Development Kevin Gareau said students can download applications from the KIC Web site at http://kic.kent.edu.
He said applications are due at the KIC office by 4 p.m. Sept. 11.
Rooms will be judged for three different categories: Best Theme, Best Use of Space and Most Creative, Gareau said. Students can choose more than one category in which to compete. Each category can have only one winner and no one can win in more than one category, he said.
KIC president Traci Sanders said at the Tuesday KIC meeting that the purpose of the competition is not to redecorate a room just for the competition. Students more commonly give the room an overall theme for the year, she said.
Sanders said students have to follow the Hallways Handbook and if students have any questions they should talk to their resident assistants or residence hall directors.
RAs can also participate in the competition.
If students have any more questions, they should contact the KIC office.
