TV Time With Bob: Finals Edition

Robert Taylor

For the final installment of “TV Time With Bob” for the semester, I’m giving all my favorite shows their final grade as they move into their season finales.

“24”

Fox, Mondays at 9

Final Grade: B+

My misgivings about all the deaths earlier this season still stand, however the past three episodes have been airtight and reminiscent of “24” at its best. Even Audrey isn’t annoying anymore, and while the revelation of President Logan as the master villain could have been laughable, the writers are keeping the story line enjoyable.

“America’s Next Top Model”

UPN, Wednesdays at 8

Final Grade: B

Now the show seems to have fallen into a pattern of eliminating the girl that should win (Nnenna) halfway through the season (remember Lisa in Cycle 5?) for shock value. I’m putting my money on Joanie for the win; she’s the only girl who can sell anything thrown at her. As for the quality of the season, I’d put it on par with the last, but nothing more.

“Desperate Housewives”

ABC, Sundays at 9

Final Grade: D+

“Desperate Housewives” was always predictable, but in such a way that we would still watch because the acting and writing made the comedy comedic and the drama dramatic. Now the show is just predictable, with bad acting and obvious drama. I won’t be returning next season.

“Gilmore Girls”

The WB, Tuesdays at 8

Final Grade: B+

With the news that series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino would be exiting the show after this season, I was a bit upset. This is compounded by the fact that recent episodes have probably been the weakest since season four. It’s not the way I want to see Palladino leave her baby, but despite the drop in quality, the show remains better than any other comedy and most dramas on television.

“The O.C.”

Fox, Thursdays at 9

Final Grade: C-

The prom episode was excellent and reminded me just how far the show has fallen in quality this season. Now it’s a disaster of mismatched emotion and relationships no one has cared about for two years. What a shame.

“One Tree Hill”

The WB, Wednesdays at 8

Final Grade: A+

No one can tell me that the writers, directors and actors haven’t realized that this show has completely gone off the rails and are now writing some sort of high comedy hour each week. Nothing is good by any stretch of the imagination, but everything is so damn watchable that I can’t help but give it a passing grade, albeit for all the wrong reasons.

“Veronica Mars”

UPN, Tuesdays at 9

Final Grade: A-

After a couple stinker episodes, the path to the season (and possible series) finale has been lined with all the twists and character revelations viewers should always expect from the best drama on television. Pick up the DVD, check out the reruns, do whatever you want to, but give this show a chance.
