Flashes finish fourth at Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate

In a field of 14 teams, the Kent State men’s golf team finished fourth with a strong final round at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate over the weekend, hosted by North Carolina State.

With an even par, Kent State placed just behind nationally ranked No. 20 Kentucky, No. 13 Duke and No. 16 North Carolina. Kentucky led the tournament at 10 under, followed by Duke at six under and North Carolina at four under.

The Flashes began the tournament with a 287 in the first round, then shot for a total of 289 in the second round, but finished strong with a 288 in the final round Saturday to end at 864.

The Flashes had three top-15 finishers, including one top-10 finish by freshman Peter Ahn. After starting at No. 5, Ahn finished in a tie for ninth place at two under par. In his first career top-10 finish, Ahn shot a 72 in a the first round, 68 in the second and 74 in the third, totaling a 214.

Sophomore Tommy Wiegand and senior Ryan Yip tied for 13th place at one under with a 215.

The Flashes will be next in action Saturday and Sunday at the Aggie Invitational hosted by No. 12 Texas A&M.
