Haynes, Christian receive MAC honors

After leading the Kent State men’s basketball team to its second ever Mid-American Conference regular season championship and No. 1 seed in the MAC tournament, senior guard DeAndre Haynes was named MAC Player of the Year and coach Jim Christian was named MAC Coach of the Year.
Haynes is the first Kent State men’s player to be given the honor and was also unanimous All-MAC First Team choice, while Christian wins his first MAC coaching honor. In Kent State history, the honor has been given to a coach five times.
Haynes is second on the team and 13th in the conference in scoring with 13.4 points per game. He finished eighth in the league in assists with 4.0 per game and also placed sixth in the conference in steals with 1.67 per game.
The Flashes ended the regular season with a 22-8 overall record and 15-3 MAC record.
