The students in Professor Eunsook Hyun’s multiculturalism in higher education institutions class are putting on a new program, but they aren’t creating it.

Everyone else will.

The students are working on a project called “Through the Eyes of Others: A Photo Journey of Diversity.” Hyun said the project’s purpose is to stimulate dialogue about diversity on campus that could enhance students’ learning and personal and social growth.

The project entails having people from on-and-off campus take pictures of things or people they feel show diversity in the Kent community to be displayed in a gallery, she said.

Hyun said an understanding of human diversity doesn’t happen only by offering a course or taking a class.

“It happens in your daily life, depending on how you make a meaning of the moments in light of human diversity with respect to social justices, equity and humanities,” she said.

Photo submissions are due April 7. Those interested should send their pictures to Mary Jane Boos in room 308 White Hall. The gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 19 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20 in the Student Multicultural Center. A reception will take place from 4:25 to 7:05 p.m. April 19.
