Varsity ‘K’ Class Inducted

The weekend was eventful for Kent State sports, as the 2006 Varsity “K” class was inducted and honored at a presentation Saturday.

The 2006 class included the Varsity “K” Person of the Year Tom Kot, an alumnus of the class of 1948 and letterwinner in football and baseball.

Honorary Varsity “K” member Tom Barber, a distinguished alumnus who worked at Kent State as an educator and administrator, was also recognized.

Men’s basketball letterwinner Fred Albrecht of the class of 1967 was recognized as a distinguished alumnus.

Professional golfer Ben Curtis was inducted as well. Curtis graduated in 2000 and was a three-time All-American. He won the British Open in 2003.

Other inductees included track champions Bruno Cherrier and Kim Kreiner, golfer Kevin Kraft, gymnast Mike Gilliam, basketball and baseball player Jim Gorsline, basketball player Dawn Zerman-McCullough, men’s head basketball coach Gary Waters and football’s Astron Whately.
