Wick Poetry Series to continue tonight

Maxine Scates, visiting associate professor of creative writing at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, will read her prize-winning poetry to continue the Wick Poetry Series.

Scates, author of Black Loam, received the 2004 Lyre Prize from Cherry Grove Collections.

Wick Assistant Jessica Jewell said Scates also has won the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize and the Oregon Book Award for poetry.

Her poems have appeared in such journals as The American Poetry Review, The Missouri Review and The Women’s Review of Books, Jewell said.
