Free depression screenings today

National Depression Screening Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today in the second floor lobby of the Student Center.

Those who attend will be asked to fill out a confidential and anonymous survey.

“It doesn’t take very long,” said Stacey Scott, a student employee at the DeWeese Health Center. “If necessary, people will then be given the opportunity to speak with a health services staff member.”

The event is sponsored by Psychological Services and University Health Services. The main goal of this event is to educate people about depression.

“We want to give students an opportunity to learn more about their moods and to find out if they have something to be concerned about,” said Dr. John Schell, a psychologist at the Health Center. “It’s a way to raise consciousness on campus of mental health issues.”

Even those who don’t feel they have depression are welcome to the event.
