Architects from area gather, talk about economy

The Kent State University Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative joined architects from across northeast Ohio yesterday and Monday for a symposium at Cleveland State University where they discussed the architectural issues facing the region.

The group talked about new ways to make the economy more competitive and sustainable over a long period of time. Plans to make Lakefront and Cuyahoga River Valley places where people choose to live and plan to stay were also discussed, said Charles Graves, an architecture professor.

Several speakers, including Steven Fong, the new dean of the College of Architecture, gave keynote addresses. Topics of discussion included the following: new urban landscapes, planning and development for smart growth, ports and waterways, building sustainable communities and sustainable neighborhoods already in northeast Ohio.
