Volleyball begins season

Kent State volleyball opened up the 2005 season with a loss to Michigan State (1-0) on Saturday in East Lansing, Mich.

The Spartans led the Flashes in each game, finishing the first with a score of 30-25, the second 30-19 and the final match 30-27.

Senior outside hitter Danielle Holt led the Flashes (0-1) in kills with 13 and also had four digs.

The Flashes were able to tie up the second game at 13-13 with a serve from senior Anne Butts before Michigan State pulled ahead in a 17-6 run.

Butts was able to post 17 assists and sophomore Anja Knabe-Paulsen put up 12 assists and three service aces for the night.

The Flashes travel to Illinois State to compete in the Barker GMC Tournament on Friday.
