James E. Trimble, 44, of Brimfield, pleaded not guilty to the 12 charges of attempted murder of police officers that he was indicted for Thursday.

Trimble also is charged with killing Kent State senior Sarah Positano, Ren‚e Bauer, 42, and Dakota Bauer, 7.

In an orange-and-white-striped jump suit, Trimble appeared before Portage County Court of Common Pleas Judge John A. Enlow with his arms and ankles bound with shackles.

Enlow scheduled Trimble’s pre-trial for March 25 and a trial for March 29 on charges that Trimble shot at 12 police officers the night of Jan. 21 while eluding police. Enlow set Trimble’s bail at $3 million in cash.

Trimble’s attorney, Portage County Defender Dennis Lager, would not comment after the arraignment. Portage County Prosecutor Vic Vigluicci was not available to comment.
