Kent’s Charter Review Commission appointed three new officers last night.

The commission appointed Nancy Hansford as chairperson, Ron Heineking as vice chairperson and William Tarver as secretary.

The commission will review Kent’s charter for the next six months and make recommendations for revision to Kent City Council.

“It’s a six-month adventure,” Clerk of Council Linda Copley said.

After being appointed, Hansford chose a committee of commission members to draft a set of rules for the commission to follow.

Hansford also set the date for the next meeting of the Charter Review Commission. It will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 in the city council chambers and will be open to the public.

The commission’s recommendations, if approved by city council, will be placed on the ballot in the next local election. Kent residents who attend the meetings can also make suggestions to revise the charter.

The Charter Review Commission last met 10 years ago.
