With a red carpet ready to be rolled out, Kent State is preparing for its third annual American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event with a kickoff rally being held tomorrow at the M.A.C. Center.

Registration for teams will begin at 5 p.m., followed by a short program at 5:30 p.m. with guest speaker, football coach Mike Drake, as the event’s honorary cancer survivor. Food and drinks will be provided.

Teams for the April 30 to May 1 event should have about 15 people, and there is a $100 entry fee for each team.

“We’re really excited about the rally. This is going to be just a little taste of what’s to come. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Jessica Cahoon, who is helping to plan the event.

Cahoon said this year’s theme will have a Hollywood setting and the goal is to raise $60,000.

All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

The rally is followed by the 7 p.m. women’s basketball game against Eastern Michigan.
