Kent State University Police Services has once aga Kent State University Police Services has once again received accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. They have received this accreditation consecutively since 1991.

CALEA is a voluntary organization that accredits police departments, sets standards for conduct and public outreach and evaluates department performance.

“We are holding our officers, dispatchers and employees in general to a higher standard,” said Tricia Knoles, a Kent State University police sergeant. “It’s a way to be accountable.”

Students living in Verder Hall were told their wat Students living in Verder Hall were told their water would shut off from 5 a.m. Friday to Saturday evening – and potentially longer – due to needed repairs to the building’s main sewage line.

Early Friday morning, the water turned off but then was turned back on around 11 a.m. because work was completed quicker than expected, said Doug Pearson, associate vice president for Facilities Planning and Operations.

“We started to have problems with the sewer line in Verder with frequent backups,” Pearson said. “Eventually, we started to excavate the sewer vein, which is in the crawlspace under the building, and discovered the old sewer vein was rotted out in sections.”

The Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of The Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising hosted the first of several Prospective Days this semester for interested high school or transfer students.

Dylan Ratell, a recruitment coordinator for the College of the Arts, led a group informational session, followed by a Q&A session with academic advisor Laura Caparanis and a student panel from the college.

The 10 prospective students and their families in attendance were informed about the two majors within the School of Fashion: a Bachelor of Science in fashion merchandising and either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Fine Arts in fashion design. Fashion merchandising focuses more heavily on the business side of fashion, while fashion design focuses on the creation of clothing and accessories.

CNN— Amazon is joining other streaming services CNN— Amazon is joining other streaming services and inserting ads into its programming.

Beginning next year, shows and movies on its Prime Video service will “include limited advertisements,” the company announced Friday. Amazon’s change brings it in line with its rivals, like Netflix and Max, adding ad-supported tiers as companies search for additional revenue.

Amazon explained that ads will help it “continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time.” Spending on its content, which includes “Thursday Night Football” and its original series, soared nearly 30% in 2022 to $16.6 billion.

Kent City Council has yet to resolve disputes arou Kent City Council has yet to resolve disputes around the city’s ward maps. It is routine for the city to revise ward boundaries after each U.S. census, but three years since the last census in 2020, the council still hasn’t come to a solution.

At its meeting Wednesday, Kent City Council considered an action to amend the city’s charter to change ward apportionment from 10% to 15% population variance.

If the council votes in favor of a charter amendment, it must go on the ballot for Kent voters to decide. Under the current charter, the ward boundaries must be redrawn, increasing the size of Ward 5 in particular. The change to 15% would mean the boundaries can largely stay the same.
