Best Valentine’s Day dates in Kent

Still looking for a place to take your date on Valentine’s Day? Here are a few places in Kent to make your holiday special, both on and off campus.

  1. Come be my Valentine! ice skating event 

On Valentine’s Day, the Flash Activities Board will host a free skate night at the Ice Arena from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Along with skating, there will also be a caricature artist, stuffed animal making, chocolate covered sweets and more. 

  1. Partner Yoga

Interested in spicing up your activeness or teamwork in a relaxing manner for your relationship? Attend partner yoga at the Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center. On Thursday, the Rec is having a free partner yoga session. You may attend with anyone, whether thats a romantic partner, a friend or even a family member. The event takes place from 7:00 8:30 p.m. 

  1. Insomnia Cookies

Looking for an easy night in on Valentine’s Day? Consider getting Insomnia Cookies and having a movie night for the holiday. Insomnia is open until 3 a.m. every day, so this could be a late night stop for you and your sweetheart. Insomnia has a Valentine’s-themed red velvet cookie with cream cheese chip pieces. One cookie is $1.65, and a six-pack is $9.50. 

“You can purchase a heart-shaped cookie cake made out of them [the cookies] for your sweetheart,” said Gwen Goebelt, shift leader at Kent’s Insomnia Cookies. “We also have a red velvet ice cream that pairs extremely well with the cookie.” 

  1. Barrio brunch

Barrio is not only known for its DIY tacos and specialty margaritas. The modern taco restaurant also serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items like specialty French toast, biscuits and gravy, breakfast tacos and brunch cocktails can be found on the menu. Take your special someone or a group of friends out to Barrio to enjoy a Valentine’s Day weekend brunch. 

 

  1. Corner Cup

Corner Cup Coffeehouse, located in Stow about 15 minutes away from campus, is a nice coffee shop to try outside of Kent’s perimeter. Corner Cup is a warm and welcoming coffee shop with a great menu of espresso drinks, teas, smoothies and tasty breakfast sandwiches and pastries. For Valentine’s Day, they are featuring a special raspberry shortbread latte, with raspberry and almond syrups, and a love potion white mocha with white mocha and raspberry syrup. They also have a card-making event on Wednesday to make valentines for your special someone. 

“Corner Cup is the perfect place to bring that special someone,” said Kirsten Hoover, shift lead barista at Corner Cup. “[It’s] a quiet and relaxing atmosphere where you can cozy up by the fireplace with a hot love potion white mocha and your favorite pastry.”

  1. Comedy Night

If you’re looking for some laughs this Valentine’s Day, get tickets for a comedy show in Kent. On Tuesday, The Dome will host a free open mic comedy night with featured comedians from 8 to 11 p.m.
