After perfecting their craft for four years, Kent State’s senior BFA photography class of 2023 showcased their work one final time Friday evening.

The Taylor Hall Gallery was packed with friends and families of senior photography students for The School of Visual Communication Design’s 2023 Senior BFA Photography Exhibition.

This year’s theme was “Before We Close The Door,” a collection displaying students’ photography work from the past four years.

“It’s reflecting on us graduating, our last four years and how we’ve closed the door to our undergraduate,” senior photographer Savannah Monks said. “Some of us are going off to grad school or getting jobs. Just kind of reflecting on that.”

The show features the work of nine students: Jack Amicone, Pierce Bartman, Greta Bell, Ava Cheadle, Savannah Monks, Amanda Stayer, Ariyel Tafari-Thompson, Hayley Vitale and Julia Webb.

Each student had the opportunity to display their work to attendees and discuss everything from their personal style of photography to their goals after graduation.

Vitale shared work captured at places from on-campus locations to times she vacationed in Italy. She has a unique range of photos from fashion shoots and architectural photography as well as some of her work from interning with Cleveland Magazine.

“I’m honestly really excited and a little nervous,” Vitale said. “It’s crazy to see it here after the last four years.”

Before We Close The Door will be on display until May 31 and will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Taylor Hall Gallery.
