A week where the sororities practice each recruitment round to get a feel for how things will go, “Work Week” has officially concluded and the sororities are ready to meet new young women who have an interest in joining Kent State Greek life.
Kent State has eight sorority chapters on campus. All sororities go through formal recruitment at the beginning of the fall semester to bring in new women to the sorority.
A list of all eight sorority chapters Kent State has can be found here.
Recruitment involves three rounds: open house, values and preference.
Open House is where all potential new members (PNMs) meet all of the chapters and find out if it would be a good fit for them.
Values is when the sorority expresses the values they hold as a chapter and see if the PNMs have similar values.
Preference is a deeper round, where the sororities and PNMs form connections to really get to know each other personally.
Sydney Pranskey, a junior in Delta Zeta, says values round is her favorite.
“In values, you can sit down and have conversations with them,” she said. “It’s really special to see what values mean the most to them.”
Once preference round concludes, it is time for Bid Day. This is when all of the potential new members find out their forever home.
“It’s a really cool thing to see,” she says. “Watching all of these young women being so passionate about finding the perfect fit for them, and then being able to see them run to their forever home.”
