The university’s farmers’ market will take place on the Student Center Green Tuesday, Sept. 19 from 4 to 7 p.m.
The event is being hosted in collaboration with Haymaker Farmers’ Market, a weekly farmers’ market located in downtown Kent.
“We coordinate with them to bring some of those local vendors to campus so that students can have that experience even closer to them,” said Meghan Factor-Page, assistant director for Kent State of Well-being.
Some frequent fan-favorite vendors will be making their way from Haymaker Farmers’ Market to campus.
“Some favorites are coming back and we’ve got some new folks. One of the favorites is Bee Gluten Free Baked Goods,” Factor-Page said. “Bigfoot Mushrooms is coming, that is usually a favorite. Busy B Patisserie is a huge favorite as well.”
This market will feature many different items, including baked goods, arts and crafts, food, tea, nuts, plants and spices.
The Kent State Glass Club will be at the market, selling their glasswork.
“We invite registered student organizations that produce products, so they sell goods or crafts that they make within their student organization,” Factor-Page said.
All of the items shown at the market will be available for purchase. Acceptable forms of payment include cash, card, Apple Pay and Venmo, individually determined by each vendor. Students can also use FlashCash to make purchases.
“If they have money allocated on their FLASHcard they would get tokens from the farmers’ market – from the Haymaker tent – and then they can spend those tokens at the vendors,” Factor-Page said.
In addition to the goods available for purchase, the Riley Burke Band will be on the green performing live music for all those who attend.
The event will take place on the green rain or shine, so attendees should prepare for any type of weather.
There will be a total of six on-campus farmers’ markets throughout the year, occurring on a regular monthly basis.
“We have a variety of vendors to show students that there’s a lot of local variety and products to purchase, and a way to engage in the campus community so they can see what is in their backyard,” Factor-Page said.
