Another night of failed execution on the offensive side of the ball lead to the third loss in a row for the Kent State women’s soccer team as it falls to Xavier University 1-0 Friday night at Dix stadium. Both teams combined for 26 fouls.

“It was battle for sure,” junior midfielder Vital Kats said. “It was a good battle and we’re ready every game we play.”

Xavier struck first in minute 31 via a goal by junior Sydney Schembri. This would be the winning goal, as Xavier improved to 3-1-1 on the season. 

Kent State fell to 0-3-1 on the season and failed to execute on six corners with majority of those attempts in the second half.

The team only has one goal in the season, but coach Rob Marinaro knows his team is working hard to try to produce offensively. 

“I think we’re creating opportunities, some of the start up plays don’t have the finishing product,” Marinaro said. “A little bit of that is our confidence level. I told the team everything is in place and once they get the ball rolling it will all work out.”

Despite the offensive woes, goalkeeper Faith O’Neill had seven saves. 

Kent State remains home as they will face ACC opponent Syracuse at Dix Stadium Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. 

“They just need to believe,” Marinaro said. “This is an amazing group and I’m just so proud of the effort they are showing.They need to catch a break and we can get the ball rolling from there.”
